JOB DESCRIPTION

EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN

Position Summary

 

Delivers clean and disinfected medical equipment to designated locations in customer's healthcare facility. Picks up soiled medical equipment from designated locations in customer's facility and performs a thorough cleaning/disinfecting process to prepare equipment assets for patient use, thereby returning equipment back into service. Tracking of equipment location and utilization status by operating software and the use of bar coding systems.

 

Daily Responsibilities

         Under direction of the Program Supervisor, responsible for the delivery, pick-up, cleaning/disinfecting of medical equipment from designated departments within an Akron healthcare facility.

 

         Performing the equipment cleaning & disinfecting process, tagging of processed equipment, use of PPE and MSDS sheets.

 

         Follows equipment manufacturer and facility protocols for cleaning & disinfecting of equipment.

 

         Follows proper handling and transport of soiled and clean medical equipment.

 

         Promptly delivers processed equipment to departments upon request.

 

         Receives training on departmental software and bar code systems.

 

         Appropriately performs duties in accordance with healthcare facilities Infection Control Policies and Procedures.

 

         Follow department work schedule, rounding schedule and other departmental protocols.

 

         Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.

 

         Establish and maintain good customer satisfaction, good personal relationships with facility management personnel, departmental management and fellow personnel.

 

         Tracking of equipment in inventory, utilization status, and location. Keep accurate electronic records.

 

         Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with the facilities ethical business practice.

 

         Leave work are clean and clear of soiled equipment.  If necessary to leave assets for following shift, follow the appropriate departmental protocols.

 

         Report to work on-time and as scheduled, follow policy for scheduling time off, reporting sick or absent time with supervisor. Participate in flextime/shift scheduling as needed.

 

         Wear proper identification while on duty.

 

         Observe the facilities dress code at all times, and have good personal hygiene.

 

         Maintain a clean, orderly appearance of all work areas.

 

         Perform other duties as assigned.       

Basic Job Qualifications

          Graduate of an accredited high school.

 

          Able to work with cleaning and disinfecting chemicals.

 

          Able to follow verbal and written instructions.

 

          Good written and oral communication skills.

 

          Computer literate.

 

          Non-smoking environment - must be able to complete a tobacco screening test.

 

          Must be able to pass drug screening test.

 

          Must be able to pass a background check.

 

          Mandatory Flu Vaccination Required.

 

          Must be able to flex hours upon facility demands.

 

          Immunization records must be current.

 

Preferred Job Qualifications

          Experience in a Customer Service environment.

 

          Experience working within a hospital or healthcare setting.

 

          Knowledge of cleaning and/or disinfecting of medical equipment.

 

Physical Requirements

            Demonstrate motor coordination and manual dexterity with hands, eyes, and fingers in the performance of the daily duties.

 

            Demonstrate physical ability for prolonged standing, walking, crouching, kneeling, reaching, frequent bending, and climbing stairs.

 

            Demonstrate the knowledge of safe lifting techniques and the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.

 

            Maintain 20/40 vision accuracy, both near & far vision, good hearing, color discrimination and depth perception

 

            Push/Pull carts with medical equipment from various areas within a medical facility, weighing up to 50 lbs.

 

Training Requirement

         Willing to participate in on-site training programs as assigned.

 

         Obtain and maintain a complete knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulation and standards, JCAHO/DNV regulations.

 

         Successfully complete annual education requirements, facility in-service training (fire, safety, emergency procedure, infection control, etc.) and keep up-to-date on sterilization/cleaning techniques.
